Pilot Project: Proof-of-Concept
The first step in this process is the pilot project.
The pilot project trial will take
place in two environments. However, the same infrastructure and same
architecture will be used for all proof-of-concept projects
- PowerDeveloper member pilot. Validating
the user of Power Architecture based systems for office productivity and
systems development within the PowerDeveloper.org community
- Emerging community pilot.
Proof-of-concept on deploying fully managed localized images for use in
emerging communities using very low-cost state-of-the-art end-user
computers.
Each has three phases that take place in parallel:
- Proof-of-concept. Technical feasibility that images can be
distributed and managed and that end-users can make effective use of
the system for basic personal productivity.
- Extended use. Deliver applications and services that meet the requirements of the community.
- For PowerDeveloper.org, deployment of supported systems into developer community for evaluation as a development platform.
- For emerging community, implementation of localized applications that deliver direct value to the community.
- Qualification of the demonstrated capability with the infrastructure management for the community.
Phase 1 requires a deployment of half a dozen machines within the evaluation environment.
Phase 2 extends this to dozens of machines distributed in several different locations.
Phase 3 opens up the deployment to operational status and kicks off global distribution and management.
Participation in Proof-of-Concept Pilot Project
Participation is sought for the
proof-of-concept from two different groups, both of whom can benefit
from the successful deployment of Managed Open Source Power Architecture
solutions:
-
PowerDeveloper.org membership to
participate in Phase 1 and Phase 2 as part of the Power Architecture
community of developers and manufacturers. The goal for this group is to
put into practice, "Use what we sell and sell what we use."
-
Sponsors of Emerging Community
Initiatives who are seeking a low cost and easily managed
state-of-the-art deployment of information and communications
capabilities.
