Summary of six stages for success
Thus, the six stages of successful deployment in creating an end-to-end solution are:
- The Image Factory - A global resource for
managing system images for deployment. Provided by the Distribution of
choice and / or Genesi.
- Reference platforms - Freely available designs that are used to validate images. Provided through Genesi and PowerDeveloper.org.
- Global Distribution Infrastructure. - The
ability to deliver an image to any locality. Provided through the
Distribution of choice and / or Genesi through PowerDeveloper.org.
- Localization - The key to success. The ability to immediately deliver valuable services. Provided by local deployment sponsor.
- Reference platform and market product production - The ability to produce or acquire devices as desired with ODM sponsor.
- Local Support - The education, training and coaching team that assures success. Provided by local deployment sponsor.
The six components of the deployment process:

Success with this initiative
requires the development of a skilled and committed global network that
will include global corporations, governments, academic institutions,
foundations, non-governmental organizations, small businesses at all
levels and local community leadership and participation.
The result of this effort can be
the creation of significant new wealth for the local community that
successfully participates in this program and thus moves from isolation
to participation.
The team and resources required for success:
- Local content and local support. This is the most
critical requirement The deployed systems must immediately deliver local
value to the community so as to encourage and maintain participation.
- Broadband network for distribution of images. This
can be wireless or wired. This is the capability that supports automatic
systems deployment and maintenance. This significantly reduces the
requirement for skilled local technical support and thus allows local
support staff to focus on successful use and results. CD or flash memory
alternatives can use the same methodology as broadband if broadband is
unavailable for network based image management. The hard disk, CD or
flash memory would have both the current image and the image management
application so that upgrades and new applications, are installed and
validated automatically once the CD or flash memory is attached.
- PowerDeveloper.org Open Reference Platforms. Assures that everything works together while providing flexibility on production and acquisition of equipment
- Global Infrastructure. As the program grows, the
enabling distribution infrastructure will also need to grow to keep pace
with expanding deployments. Current participants in Power Architecture
are already primary providers of global network infrastructure and can
thus quickly provide the services required to sustain this program.
- Open Source Image Development and Distribution.
Assures that open source resources are properly developed, integrated,
validated and deployed. The creation of the images removes the need for
local investment in managing open source development and integration.
