Description
Develop a detailed concept.
Create design drafts and select the main components of the mainboard.
Calculate a rough cost estimate of the materials of the board (bill of materials) based on the chosen components.
Estimated time for completion: 3 weeks
Additional notes:
This is the initial bounty of the MPC8610 Open Source Mainboard Initiative. The main aim of this project is to create an open source mainboard based around the Freescale MPC8610. The target mainboard specifications are as follows:
- Flex form factor - MPC8610@1Ghz (or faster if it is economically feasable)
- 4x SATA 2 connectors
- 4x USB2 ports
- 2x Gigabit Ethernet ports
- Sound ports (Audio Out, Mic In)
- 1 PCI slot
- 1 PCI-e slot 1x
- 1 PCI-e slot 8x
Software development and developer seeding will be supported by projects on PowerDeveloper. Upon completion of the design and prototypes, individual approved projects will be turned into Bounties. Once funding for a board for a developer is committed, the developer will receive the board. Any further money put into the Bounty will be given to the developer upon successful completion of the Project.
Important Note to Donors: Depending on the total amount of donations that will be raised, it is possible that not all parts of the MPC8610 Open Source Mainboard initiative will be assigned and completed due to insufficient funding. Please do not donate unless you accept the risk that the mainboard bounty might only be partially completed.
